The
role of the agricultural sector in nutrition
The government seeks to increase agricultural growth rates to achieve food and nutrition security and combat poverty through the production of food commodities for consumption and marketing, improving and diversifying sources of nutrition, increasing dependence on food resources, improving income and access to food, and improving the relationship between consumers and food sources.
The role of the agricultural sector in the multi-sectoral nutrition plan 2021/2023 is represented in increasing the level of productivity of the main crops (cereals, vegetables, and fruits), enhancing the sources of income for productive agricultural families, and improving the quality and quantity of food consumed. Which will benefit small farmers in the various governorates of the Republic. The plan contains six direct goals, which include, under each goal, a set of different activities to achieve these goals
Objectives of the nutrition plan for the agricultural sector 2021-2023
- Support efforts to combat rural poverty and enable farmers to develop their resources
- Support and encourage agricultural research and extension
- Improving the readiness of the agricultural sector to help achieve the requirements of food security and nutrition
- Sustainability and efficient management of natural resources
- Improving the ability of local markets to compete
- Raising the capabilities of the agricultural cadre, farmers, exporters and agricultural marketers
- Enhancing cooperation and partnership between the main nutrition sectors (agriculture, health, education, fisheries, water)
